What do you have to lose?

The pros far outweigh the cons

I write weekly about the strategies, habits, and tactics around cultivating the connections that matter to you.

Imagine this: You're sitting at your desk, staring at an email from an old colleague. They're reaching out after years, not just to catch up but to refer you for an opportunity that sounds too good to be true. What do you do?

If you're like many of us, a tiny voice in your head starts listing reasons to ignore the email…

"What if it doesn't work out?"

"I'm not ready."

"What will they expect from me?"

Today, I want to talk about flipping the script.

Embrace the Unknown with Open Arms! What do you have to lose? Let's consider the pros that far outweigh the cons.

Every message, every referral, every seemingly small gesture made on your behalf by someone else is a seed of opportunity.

A single moment of inconvenience turned into a revolutionary invention, all because he chose to explore a tiny, sticky problem.

Think about those who've referred you or supported you in the past. They saw something in you, something maybe even you hadn’t seen in yourself. What if you took a moment to really explore the potential of their belief in you?

Taking Action

  1. Make a List: Write down names of people who have referred you or helped you in your career or personal life. Recognize their contributions openly. A simple "thank you" message acknowledging their support can rekindle these valuable connections and show your appreciation.

  2. Evaluate Opportunities: For every referral or opportunity, list out the pros and cons. You'll often find that the pros – learning something new, expanding your network, growing personally and professionally – vastly outweigh the cons of stepping out of your comfort zone.

  3. Take One Small Step: If an opportunity feels daunting, break it down. What's one small step you can take today? Maybe it's just replying to that email or making a quick call.

What do you have to lose, really? Most fears about new opportunities are just ghosts of past insecurities. Let's not let what we fear about the unknown hold us back from what could potentially be life-changing.

Until next week, keep looking for the hooks that life throws at you—because one of them might just be your next big breakthrough.

Much Love,

Zvi

P.S. Remember the story of the coffee companion who never asked about me? Don't be that person in your professional relationships. Be curious, be grateful, and most importantly, be engaged with those who think of you when opportunities arise.
